BE SURE TO FORGET ABOUT IT

Or as they say in gangster films, "fuhget about it."

Why am I writing about this topic today? Here's why.

How many times has someone said to you, "Don't forget to ... (fill in the blank)."

And how many times did you forget to do it?

Don't worry, it's not completely your fault.

How many times did you tell someone to "not forget" to do something and they did? Well, it really was all their fault. It can't be yours, right? Just kidding.

The reason that many of us often forget to do something is that we have, in reality, been told to forget it.

It has to do with the subconscious mind. It records everhting you see, hear and experience. It tends to be very literal in it's interpretation of things it is told. It does not understand the opposite of an idea. When it it told to "not" do something, it doesn't compute. Instead, it deletes the word not. So when you say to someone, or to yourself, "don't forget to X", it hears the instruction as "forget to X." So it does. Then you get mad at yourself or at the other person because you or they forgot to do something important.

They way out of this trap is to change your language. Instead of saying, "don't forget to ..." replace it with such phrases as "remember to ..." or "be sure to ..." and so on.

That way, you and others will be more likely to remember.

If you don't take my advice, two big guys will show up at your house at midnight to persuade you to remember.

And speaking of persuasion, check out the book, "Power Persuasion: Using Hypnotic Influence to Win in Life, Love and Business by David R. Barron and Danek S. Kaus.

Here are just a couple of the rave reviews:

"Power Persuasion offers the detailed specifics of what to say, how to say it and the mental attitude that will make you a powerful person of influence in every situation. Awesome stuff!"
~Mike Litman –#1 Best-Selling Author –"Conversations with Millioniares"http://www.mikelitman.com
==
"Not only did Power Persuasion teach me to use hypnotic influence in common situations; it was fun and exciting to read. It's the first hypnosis-related book where the command should be "You are not getting sleepy." And you won't while you're reading it!"
~ Malcolm Kushner author of "Presentations for Dummies" and "Public Speaking for Dummies"
